International Baccalaureate (IB) in Louisiana 

To support implementation of Louisiana's new accountability system's thrive metric, students who earn a 4 or higher on an IB exam can earn a university accelerator. The IB is making teaching Diploma Programme (DP) courses a reality for this school year, we are piloting a unique opportunity exclusively for Louisiana schools. Schools can begin teaching courses upon completion of professional development before full authorization as a Diploma Programme.

Meet our presenters

Dr. Cherissa Vitter is an Assistant Professor of IB Education at Southeastern Louisiana University and is responsible for teaching courses leading to the IB Educator Certificate in Teaching and Learning. Cherissa is a clinical coach for US PREP and consults nationally with universities providing guidance in teacher preparation and evaluation development. Certified by the National Society for Experiential Education, she has presented nationally on experiential education and consults with universities to create online learning opportunities. Her area of research is teacher evaluation and experiential learning online. Cherissa currently serves as the President of the Louisiana Association of IB World Schools.

Cody Bourque is a dedicated educational leader based in New Orleans, committed to fostering student-centered and inquiry-based learning through strategic planning, curriculum innovation, and collaborative leadership. As Vice President of the Louisiana IB Schools Association, he brings extensive experience in International Baccalaureate (IB) program coordination, technology integration, and educational operations. He has successfully led initiatives that enhance academic excellence and organizational efficiency, including securing and implementing grants, driving school improvement efforts, and cultivating strategic partnerships. Passionate about international-mindedness and community engagement, Cody works to create transformative learning experiences that empower both students and educators.

 

Deirdra Disher Haase is a dedicated educator with over two decades of experience in secondary and post-secondary education, specializing in the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, curriculum development, and student engagement strategies. She has participated in the International Baccalaureate Educator Network (IBEN) since 2016, serving as a CP School Visit Team Leader, CP School Consultant, Workshop Leader, and Examiner for Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Digital Society.
